English Improv in Düsseldorf.
Düsseldorf's English improv jam. Short-form games and unscripted scenes for anyone who wants to try improv without pressure. Beginners are welcome.
This is an improv jam in English, in Düsseldorf, and it works like this: you get a prompt, you step into the scene, and you find out what happens at the same time as everyone else. No script, no preparation, no audience watching. Just the group, making things up.
We start every session with 10 to 15 minutes of warm-ups. Listening, reacting, moving around, getting used to making fast choices. Then we play: freeze, character prompts, emotion and genre switches, two-person scenes, group scenes, rapid-fire games. The mix changes every session, so no jam feels the same twice.
You don't need acting experience. You don't need comedy experience. You don't need flawless English. The room is usually a mix of total beginners, experienced improvisers, actors working on spontaneity, and expats who came to meet people and stayed because it's fun.

FAQ.
-
What is an improv jam?
An improv jam is a facilitated but informal session where people create scenes together without scripts or preparation. You receive a prompt, step into the scene, and discover what happens with your partners. It's playing, not performing: there's no audience, just the group.
-
Do I need improv or acting experience?
No. The jam is built for mixed levels, and complete beginners are the norm. Warm-ups at the start of each session get everyone comfortable before any scenes happen.
-
Is my English good enough for improv?
Almost certainly. The jam is in English, but most participants speak it as a second or third language. Improv rewards listening and reacting, not vocabulary, and it's one of the best ways to make your spoken English more spontaneous.
-
How much does it cost and do I need to sign up?
€5 per session, which helps cover the room and Meetup costs. Places are limited so everyone gets enough stage time, so please RSVP via Meetup and update it if you can't make it.
-
What should I bring?
Comfortable clothing, some water, and a willingness to make unusual choices in front of friendly strangers. Note the jam is for adults (18+), since improvised scenes can occasionally wander into grown-up territory.
